Vera And The Village People is a novel about people longing for home, especially those who’ve never had one. The story follows Vera and her efforts to create a welcoming space for others even as she strives to find her own place of belonging.
SYNOPSIS: Vera thinks her days of feeling perpetually unmoored are over once she and her husband trade the constant mobility of military life for the stability of an idylic small town on Lake Michigan. Now Vera wants to reinvent the cafe she purchased just before the pandemic, enlisting the services of a legendary business coach and turning to her quirky collection of pie-loving customers for support. When a minor accident triggers a cascade of crises, she fails to notice a grave threat to not only her own stability but also to the beating heart of her new community.

Belonging isn’t the prize we win in the game of fitting in; belonging is the art we create when we become each other’s business.

Set against the backdrop of a small town cafe whose staff and customers make every day entertaining, the series examines themes of inclusion, the longing for home, and found family.
